A Happy Baby

Today I feel particularly impressed to acknowledge the blessing that is my sweet Lauren. While there are many blessings and miracles that have shaped her life, I only want to touch today on the happy disposition that she has been demonstrating and the happiness I experience because of that. Lauren has had a rough ten months, but today was the perfect example of how well she has endured her trials-almost to the point where it seems like there was no trial at all. Drew and I are often amazed at how happy she can be even in the midst of commotion. I often feel that she just radiates joy. Maybe because she has seen some darker hours, her lighter ones are even happier; for me I know they are. Today I just feel so blessed to know that she can be so happy, because I've cried with her and comforted her when she was not, and I've seen my prayers answered to make her the happy baby that she is today. This is jsut one way that I've seen the Lord's kindness in my life today., and I am so grateful for it.

A Great-Grandpa

Tonight my grandpa and family came over for dinner at our house and I realized how greatly blessed I am to have my grandpa (my girls' great-grandpa) still with us in our lives. One year ago my grandpa was told that he had less than a month to live and wouldn't even be able to see the birth of little Lauren. Now, Lauren is ten months old and loves her great-grandpa dearly. It brings me so much joy to see how much joy she brings to his life. He lights up whenever he gets to see her 'big blue eyes' and I think it washes away his pain and sufferings that wear on him day by day.

When she was sitting on his lap tonight I was just struck by what a blessing and miracle it is for him to be here. I want to lock away those precious moments of him cuddling her as I'm sure he will as well. Life is an uncertain thing, and while I sometimes feel that my grandpa will just live forever, I know he probably doesn't have much time left here on earth and I'm just so grateful for each moment that we have together and for every smile and giggle that Lauren and Abigail share with him.

A Breakfast, Library & Church

I have a pretty open schedule. I don't really like the term of a "stay at home" mom because I consider myself more of an "out and about" mom. But because many of our days are so flexible, the girls and I have been working on asking in our prayers to be guided as to specific things we should do during our day and then act on them. Today's breakfast prayer was similar in this manner and directly following breakfast I had the idea to go to the library for the Book Babies class. We usually attend the Toddler Storytime every week and were just at the library a few days ago, but we checked the time of the class and headed out for it nonetheless.

I believe any answer to a prayer is a blessing in and of itself, but today I felt as if the act itself also blessed and hopefully will continue to bless our lives. There was only one other mom at the class and it was a great opportunity for she and I to get acquainted as well as our girls- she has two also. Though I already feel blessed with the great friends I have, (which, if you're reading this, probably includes you), I really could use another local friend- can you ever have too many? And possibly she could use one too.

Following the library we were heading towards Drew's work to visit him at lunch when I began thinking of another friend. I remembered that she usually had a meeting at this time at our church building and brings along her daughter, and while doing so I found myself turning to the church parking lot and finding her car there. I took my girls inside and we offered to play with Camille in the nursery so she wouldn't have to sit through the adult meeting. It was a great surprise for my girls and one for Camille as well. I really felt like both she and her mom appreciated her playtime; isn't it interesting how allowing our actions to bless others really just seems to bless us too?

An Inspiration to Remember

It has been on my mind for several months now to create a record of the daily blessings that occur in my life amidst the outward chaos that sometimes can be overwhelming. I was initially inspired by Henry B. Eyring's recent General Conference address "O Remember, Remember," where he suggested "to recognize and remember God’s kindness" in a way that is individually fitting. To me, this is a fit; or at least I hope it will be, as I record the Lord's blessings of kindness as seen in my life. While I do acknowledge that I am blessed daily, I make no promise of daily posts as my missed entries would soon become disappointing to me. Already I feel like I am way behind- because I have been blessed so much in my past, and though I may share a few of my most memorable miracles, this blog's purpose is for the present. Looking forward to the future, and leaving a record to remember the past, but most importantly for each present day to have my outlook swayed from my selfish desires to those of humility and gratitude.

President Eyring recounted his experience of this: "Before I would write, I would ponder this question: 'Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?' As I kept at it [his record,] something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done. More than gratitude began to grow in my heart. Testimony grew..."

This is my desire and the intent of my blog. Maybe it is selfish; to record something to try and gain similar to what others have gained, but I believe that it is to help my be less selfish. I hope that this can be a trend to be embraced by many. For me a blog is easier than a written journal- I am at the computer often and a spell-checker's built in, but the bigger benefit, I hope, will be the sharing of these accounts and the spread recognition of a greater work at hand. While I am sure that this blog will probably benefit me personally the most, I hope it may also benefit each who visits and potentially inspire others to also 'remember.'
